A Sociologically-enlightened Left as an Alternative

Abstract

The present paper addresses the question of whether a leftist position can still be justified in today’s world. It focuses, first, on certain cognitive aspects to construct the argument that a leftist position can be useful even if only to help us better understand current global capitalism with the neoliberal culture that accompanies it. In the second part, I discuss the need to rethink a leftist position somewhat emancipated from orthodox Marxism. I find a promising idea in the possibility of a sociologicallyenlightened left, inspired in a text by Luis Salazar Carrión.

Es doctor en Filosofía por la Universidad Libre de Berlín y doctor en Humanidades por la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-Iztapalapa.
