Ortega y Gasset: the revolt of the masses as a philosophy of culture
Keywords:
the revolt of the masses, philosophy, cultureAbstract
In this essay we start from the work of Jose Ortega y Gasset (1930) La Rebelión de las Masas (The revolt of the masses), to demonstrate not only it is his most succesful achievement, but also that he tries to articulate in it an entire system of phenomenological interpretation of the philosophy of history, finding a source of inspiration in its forms of goverment, which permits us to think on a philosophy of culture. To this aim, it is of main importance his critique to the mass state that crushes the creative minorities with fatal consequences. Furthermore, in order to take the masses out from its clumsiness, it is necessary to construct a great European nation, with all the different continental countries to provide vigor to Europe.
