Cognitive functions of semiosis and signs
Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper focuses on explaining the function of three central factors, which belong to semiotics: the substitutive function, the semiosic function and the recursive function. Semiotics is a theo- retical perspective that allows the approach of diverse elements of the Universe, or sign-ob- jects, with the purpose of generating cogniti- ve models that explain, in some way, the way these elements function to produce knowledge; provided, of course, that a subject (human or animal) comes into contact with them. This functioning, that is, the activation of cognitive structures (biological and cultural) as soon as the cognizing subject comes into contact with the object-sign, requires, in turn, the activation of, at least, the three factors we will address.
