Communication Studies in Latin America and the Humanist Curriculum of the Universidad Michoacana

Abstract
The article elucidates the conditions under which the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Communication at the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo was developed. It addresses the economic, sociodemographic, and political dimensions considered in the design of the curriculum. Emphasis is placed on the fact that the Bachelor’s Degree in Communication emerged as an initiative to establish a public education offering for communication professionals in the state of Michoacán, Mexico.
The text outlines how, following an analysis of the Latin American context and the conditions of contemporary universities, the educational program was created and integrates theoretical and technological dimensions with a strong humanistic approach of communication teaching.
