Boris Pasternak’s Doctor Zhivago is one of the twentieth century’s key works of literature. The novel tells the life of Yuri Andreievitch Zhivago from a historical point of view, weaving a biographical style with an account of the events occurred during the first half of the century in the Soviet Union. The text acquires a philosophical and existentialist dimension due to the fact that the main character makes his individual decisions against the backdrop of historical developments that surround and determine him.
