Abstract

From the tools of hermeneutics and gender methodology, Selfa Chew’s Mudas las garzas is analyzed. The categories that guide the study are migration, memory, and duty in the construction of female subjectivity. From this approach memory is worked, as a literary resource, which entails various possibilities. There are three main ones: memory, as an act of justice, by bringing into the narrative the forced migration that the Japanese experienced in Mexico. Memory as an embodied body. The memory as a mechanism for the establishment of the duty to be and as a space of subjectivity, as an agency.
