Abstract
Gildardo Magaña Cerda, being governor of Michoacán and as the presidential succession for the period from 1940 to 1946 approached, decided to participate seeking the nomination as a candidate of the Party of the Mexican Revolution (PRM) to which he belonged. This paper exposes the national political conditions that his proposal faced, the motivations that led him to attempt this challenge and the development of the most outstanding facts of his electoral political participation, as well as its outcome, also reflecting on the importance and the consequences, both at the local and national levels, that the performance of Magañismo had in this episode of national politics.
