Abstract

Tackle study of symbolic phenomena collide with hard and controversial problem of its delimitation, in view of its wide and complex meanings in those fields of activity that it reflections developed: Linguistic, Semiotic, Esthetic, Anthropology, History of Religions, Psychology. Therefore, this document doesn’t proposes the impossible mission to obtain a definition of “symbol” but it tries to offer a journey for the most important intents of reflection about that what we know as “symbolic”, “symbolism” about phenomena it covers and theoretical problems it provokes. Phenomena symbolic considerations not as fantasies, deficient products or allegoric resources also as autonomous ways of knowledge and apprehension of reality, it constitutes a selection criterion about different studies approach of symbolism tackled in this critical analysis.
