Abstract

Today, we are living a marked reconfiguration of the power relations among nations: on one side are aligned those countries that have “governed” the United Nations since its creation at the end of World War II; while on the other we see such emerging countries as Brazil that desire greater representation at the U.N. At the same time, all these nations operate differently with respect to the dominant power of big business and large economic blocs. How has the UN dealt with this situation? What has its function been in a world of this nature?
