Anti-dogmatism and imagination
Examples, metaphors and language games in Wittgenstein’s transition period (1929-1934)
Keywords:
Wittgenstein, anti-dogmatism, imagination, metaphors, language gamesAbstract
The transition stage in Wittgenstein’s thought, from 1929 to 1934, is characterized by the search for a new philosophical method. The role given to the imagination in the methodological reflections of the period indicates that philosophy is understood as a creative ability directed against philosophical dogmatism. This paper explores the different ways in which the imagination is deployed in writings of the period, opening up the possibility of interpreting Wittgenstein’s philosophy as an anti-dogmatic creative exercise practiced through the invention of metaphors, examples and language games.
